I never took part in the May Day shenanigans that happen every year in Kreuzberg. This year though my dear colleagues wanted to witness the great commercialisation of a traditionally left wing protest. They headed for Oranienplatz and the surrounding area, and I joined them after a very late breakfast at around 2 pm. This is our story.
Even though the mobile internet network crashed I managed to find the others and we then settled down in the amphitheatre in the Görlitzer Park.
At one point Nadia got the munchies and so she, Asdrubal, Tegan and I went to find food. In the process we enjoyed the crowds, the burnt food and a rather tiny girl shouting and growling on stage like a pro. And also this guy:
We found food.
And brought it to hungry Andy.
We soon left the area, some to get more and some to get less involved in the protests.
Andy made friends.
Andy, Tegan and I then searched for the next open subway while the others dived deeper in the crowd. Yay May Day.
PS: I felt like ranting about the money making during the anti-capitalist protests but then I thought it all is rather self-explanatory and obvious. So I won’t rant about that at this precise moment.
